Save TWiT!!!

October 23, 2006

This Week in Tech
Hey guys, if you haven’t heard yet, Leo is having hesitations about TWiT, arguably the most influential and listened-to podcast in podcasting’s short history. Read about it here: http://www.twit.tv/2006/10/22/no_twit_today .

I don’t know about you, but I find it really depressing. TWiT singlehandedly introduced me to podcasting in general, and the tech world wouldn’t be the same without it. According to Leo, TWiT is “looks like it’s on life support and the heart monitor is flatlining”.

So let’s take action! Donate money to Leo by clicking the big blue “donate” button on the left side of the site. Leave him an email with the subject line “Why I donated…” and specifically tell him that he needs to keep TWiT alive!

His email is leo (at) leoville.com . Then copy/paste your email to the comment section on his blog entry here http://www.twit.tv/2006/10/22/no_twit_today#comment to MAKE SURE he sees it (register if you have to–it’s worth it!).

Finally, make some noise about it on the digg comments here: http://www.digg.com/tech_news/TWiT_in_on_the_way_out and digg the living hell out of that story to show Leo that the community is upset!

VIVA LA TWiT

Update:

Here’s a comment left by Leo himself in the news entry on twit.tv:

It’s not I who want to take a break. I’m here every week ready to record, edit, and post a show. I gladly put in more time on the show than all the other TWiTs put together, but if the other TWiTs decide not to show there’s not much I can do about it.

At this point I have a couple of choices. I could re-cast the show with people who will actually show up, but is it a TWiT without Patrick and John?

Or I could put TWiT to rest and come up with something to replace it. Neither choice is desirable, especially since we have a sponsor who is paying to be on this show in particular, but frankly it’s more than I can handle trying to keep this cast together.

As I said, I’m going to defer a decision until I come back fromt the cruise.

– Leo Laporte, Chief TWiT

I don’t think TWiT will go away.

  2. Doc Says:

    netcast*

  3. Roberto Gonzalez Says:

twit!! please don’t leave us Leo! :-(

  4. Big D Says:

Please Leo, don’t kill twit. It’s the only thing keeping me sane at this point!!!

  5. If Leo needs some more time, he may not be able to continue. But if he merely needs more support then we’ll give more Leo!

I’ve heard rumors of a live video podcast… Confidence (probably)?

But seriously, you can’t spread free meth around the neighborhood for months and then cut the supply off out of nowhere. They become violent :P

  6. Chris Says:

Dont kill twit.. just kill dvorak

  7. z0rz Says:

If I lived for anything it would be twit. Ok maybe not that exteme, but I love to listen to the gang on Sunday or Monday night. I think because of digg twit will survive. I’m not sweating too much, but I am posting here aren’t I?

  8. Matt Says:

Let Dvorak, Patrick, and John know that you want TWiT. Ultimately its up to the panelists.

  9. allandt Says:

why not change the format to a seasonal show like control-alt chicken?

that would work and it would take some pressure off the twits to be there every week. You could also just be doing twits during the times when news is thick and fast – off-season stop press twits could fill in the rest

we want twit to continue – please don’t let it die

  10. goldcoaster Says:

lose Patrick, it won’t make any difference in fact it will improve the show. His poor attempt at acting ‘cool’ (I guess thats what he thinks he is) makes me fast fwd the show.
Twit was the first and best podcast of this type that I like but then Patrick and John start CrankyGeek ( a poor imitation) that just says the same news as twit does.

    http://goldcoaster.wordpress.com

  11. Rob Says:

What would you do without my $2 :)

I do understand the frustration though. You want to put out a professional show and sometimes those guys don’t show up on time, have bad mics, cell phones ringing, dogs barking, etc. in the background which can make it seem like an amateur production.

The show is great though and at 400k subscribers it is taking off quite well. You’ve got some advertisers now and are just on the curve to make it so stick it out.

If you need to, make the show a bit shorter and just cover it yourself, with perhaps one guest per week. It could be 50% “Leo’s News” and 50% weekly interview.

  12. Sid Says:

Doing the twit……doing the twit……doing the twit.

  13. kdrlx Says:

    twit plz dont go…

  14. Karl Says:

These guys are really entertaining and I’ve watched them since the techtv days.

I feel they have built the twit army not because they are the brightest technical minds, but because they have a talent for broadcasting and entertainment.

If they think that they are so important and so busy that they can’t do the show, fine.

They can go try to get a job in IT, or end up like Martin Sargent. Just kidding, love ya Sarge. As long as infected doesn’t go away….

  15. scott Says:

see you later twit …..let it die so another may live.
It is ok …not a great loss ….there s 5000 other things to listen to ….

  16. Avsie Says:

TWiT cannot die! Maybe change the format or make it a fortnightly even but its the flagship show of the network – TWiT network is named after it. The concept of discussing the latest news and events in IT is what TWiT is based on. Re-asses the format but please do not axe the show. However just as much the show needs Leo it also needs Dvorak. Not so much Patrick (although ive nothing against him) as he’s a better contributor on dl.tv I find. Will (UK guy) – didnt like him at first but he’s grown on me and he sounds enthusiastic. Maybe he could become a replacement for Patrick?

  17. Hoo Hoo Nick Says:

I like twit, though i wouldn’t think it’d be that sad to see it go, it’d give me time to find some other shows to listen to.
Maybe if some of the donations ‘d go to patrick or john, or the sponsor-money, then they’d show up.

  18. sanslingua Says:

leo is such a drama queen. what a passive aggressive cry for attention. “oh woe is me. i feel i shant make it another week!”

    puhleese.

  19. Bill Black Says:

Will Leo actually read this page? Wether he does or doesn’t I still want twit to stay.

  20. WiLlOuGhBy Says:

This is the best whatever cast on the web. seriously, I have been listening from the beginning and I have grown to know and admire all the TWITs.. yes even John (bless his little heart). It is the only thing I look forward to .. sniff.. sniff

  21. Adam Says:

Twit is most definitely twit without Patrick and Dvorak. Dvorak really doesn’t add as much to the show as you think he does. Sometimes he just pisses everyone off. Anyway, don’t let Patrick and Dvorak stop you from doing the show. I like them and they are nice for doing the show all those times, but they are certainly not required.

  22. Patrick (a different one) Says:

I know everyone here wants TWIT to stay. But how many of you have sent them any money?
Money speaks louder than words. If everyone who posts here wants TWIT to stay then send them $20 and see what happens.

But if Leo is reading this and he wants a new “Patrick” I’m your man.
I have the name, no need to remember a new one.
I work in the computer field and I know quite a bit about repair (and how to break them).
And lastly and most important I have worn a kilt on many occasions, even in my wedding.

Good luck Leo, hope to hear more from you.

    -Patrick

  23. Rando Says:

To me, TWiT has always been a forum of guests moderated by Leo, and the guests could be anyone as far as I’m concerned as long as they have something interesting to say. In fact, I always liked it whenever there was someone new on the show. It kept it fresh. Leo sets the tone, and as long as he’s there and its the same format, it will remain TWiT.

  24. DC Says:

“TWiT dont go!!!” I got into the tech business watching ‘Call for Help’ (with Leo) and TSS..and of course maintained my addiction with TWit.. I dont like the idea of the show not being there.. take a break, enjoy the cruise, recast, but please dont cancel…

  25. AX Says:

Twit was one of the first Podcasts I listened to, its the only reason I have some of the other Twit casts aswell.

Think of the damage to all of the other casts!

More Will Harris, nice to have a Brit on the show.

I hope this isn’t a con to raise money, Leo wouldn’t do that, would he?

  26. me Says:

To hell with it, after about 10 shows of listening it gets annoying. John C D pisses me off as well.

  27. Nooooooooooooooo Says:

    Nooooooooooooooo….. Twit must live…

  28. Frank Black Says:

I guess if TWiT actually had an audience this “blog” post wouldn’t be necessary. The last time I heard a request like this was when Oral Roberts needed 8 millions bucks or (G)(g)(*)od was going to “bring him home”.

We like you Leo and I was the loudest protester when TechTV was killed, but I’m not into these sorts of tactics. Like I said during the Oral Roberts issue: “We’ll miss you”.

    I hope this helps: http://www.dice.com/

  29. John Says:

I really hope that TWiT (the cast) doesnt get killed. Like seriously, it is the only reason I turned interest to the *casting movement. It would be a shame.

    My $0.02.

  30. miklops Says:

If TWiT dies, there will be no reason to call it ‘the TWiT network’. Better kill off other shows with more restricted audiences, and make TWiT *THE* great podcast again.

  31. Why Bother? There are plenty of better things out there. If someone is having doubts, that’s their own problem. Let the rest of the people who still are innovative and creative fill the gap. Come support us instead of wasting energy motivating someone else.

  32. Douglas Scott Says:

I’m listening every week from Montreal. I think the panelists need to either show up or give up their chair to someone that wants to be heard.

  33. John Says:

He was way to Mac-centric anyways…

  34. gpnagy Says:

TWiT is an excellent podcast and really the only one I listen to faithfully each week. Its hard to imagine that a i hours time commitment from the pnael is too much to ask for the hundereds of thousands of listeners that TWiT has. I really hope the show lives on!

  35. SOLLIEX Says:

I listen to Twit on my mp3 player! Every single podcast. It is one of my favorite. I will be so unhappy if Twit folds. Twit is the conduit for all the pannels successful other doings! Don’t forget that!!!

    Love Twit!!!!

  36. KD Says:

First those B@stards took away the Screen Savers and now you are going to give up TWIT, don’t let the terrorists win. I’d like to see TWit last longer than G4. All signs are you can do it (that’s of course if you don’t reply the Man show & Star trek 2.0).

  37. theuser Says:

I’ve listened to every single twit.. what pisses me off is that patrick and dvorak were around when they needed the audience as a launching platform.. now they are too busy.. if twit stopes.. i will quick both dltv and cranky geeks.

  38. theuser Says:

wow don’t know what happened there.. here is the correction..

I’ve listened to every single twit.. what pisses me off is that patrick and dvorak were around when they needed the audience as a launching platform.. now they are too busy.. if twit stops.. i will quit both dltv and cranky geeks too.

  39. Chris Bolton Says:

I too enjoy TWIT and am concerned about it going away, though I don’t think Leo would let it die all together. It sounds to me like the regulars are just getting a bit tired. I love to hear John and Patrick’s commentary and TWIT wouldn’t be the same if they weren’t there but maybe Leo could recruit some other guests for the show so we could have a broader rotation. This would take some of the burden off the regulars and give us all a different perspective on the tech news.
Leo, if you are reading this I want to thank you for all the hard work you do and kudos for keeping it real!

    Sincerely,
    Chris “GhostRiderTGAC” Bolton

  40. jh Says:

The regulars, who are getting paid to do this, are not showing up. Leo has two choices, as he said. Fire and Recast.. or End it and Rebrand.

Do you seriously think Leo is going to walk away from Tech Netcasting / Podcasting/ whatevercasting for ever? Seriously. If you think he makes the show what it is, you’ll let him kill off show with a cast who just doesn’t care or who used Twit to make their inroads for their own personal gains.

  41. anon Says:

donations wtf — he was complaining about his speakers, not $$$ – must be nice…

  42. Mike Says:

I think many of us have missed what Leo has said. Twit NEEDS to have John and Patrick to go on.

If it were recast then it is not the show that Leo had in mind.

We all love it and would miss it. But, if the cast to make it work in the producers mind is not available then the show is no more.

The same thing happened when G4 fired all the TTV talent. The shows we treasured died.

Besides John and Patrick are cool.

Happens in other media all the time.

Leo, you do whatever you think it is you have to do to produce the show YOU want. We will all live with your choice, good or bad.

    Good luck.

  43. Leo – changes to cast happen. hopefully the new cast is as great. The show must go on…

  44. Aaron Wormus Says:

TWiT wouldn’t be the same without the panelists, it’s all of them who make it a great show. Would be interesting to maybe pull in more panelists, so that if some aren’t available then there will be a bigger pool of people to pull from.

  45. Mike Says:

Oh, one more thing. Twit just started advertising. You really think it collects huge sums of money from Dell?

I’d be it is just paying for pro equipment, offices, software, legal, and other business expenses. I don’t think the talent are getting paid just yet. It is to come.

It is a LOT to ask of friends to work for free for a year and still expect them to show up EVERY week.

Netcasting has no track record by which to set advertising rates. We don’t know what comes in or what it costs to put on all these netcasts.

  46. [...] As I was scanning the links over at Digg, I came across something that made me gasp.  Leo Laporte apparently posted at TWiT that he wasn’t sure if TWiT’s netcast would continue after he comes back after a break.  If you’re scratching your head about TWiT, or netcast, just know that it’s one of the best netcasts (podcasts for the late adopters) available.  It hosts many of the personalities from the old TechTV crew.  Meanwhile, someone has started a site to convince TWiT to stay alive. [...]

  47. Angelo Says:

Leo is the reason I stopped watching TechTV. We already have too many guys more interesting in collecting and bragging about their technology than actually USING it. Please leave Leo. Please leave.

  48. Paul Says:

Leo, keep it up my boy and widen your cast – many interesting newbies out there, get a list of 20 or so and someone who will book them for you – it sounds like the organizing is the real pain. get help :-)

    DON’T GO!!!

  49. O'Flaherty Says:

    Laporte: [TWiT] on life support

I got a shock when I read this in my feed reader this morning:
It’s about 80 degrees out – in all likelyhood the last nice day of summer in Northern California – so all the TWiTs decided to play hookey. At the same time. Unfortunately that means …

  50. Moose Says:

I think maybe Leo is just trying to light a fire under the rest of his cast. they have all been very lazy in their conviction to TWiT. TWiT has made them all very famous and enabled them to promote various other projects and maybe Leo is feeling a bit “used”. Hopefully things will get back on track now that Leo has called them al out.

  51. wanago bob Says:

Leo this is my favorite netcast. i hope you can find some reasons to continue. If you decide otherwise, then thanks alot for everything.

  52. astroroach Says:

TWIT used to have kind of a “family” feeling. It was a bunch of people from TechTV and that generated a very comfortable vibe. The participants knew each other, and we knew them. Now, after graduating from Leo’s School of Broadcasting, the original core group has become too busy to be bothered.

Lately the TWIT panel has degenerated to whoever Leo can round up, and I bet it’s like herding cats. I’m sure he’s sick and tired of begging for panelists and frequent no-shows.

Basically, the TWIT I knew and loved is already dead. If we can’t at least have Leo, Patrick and John on every show then there’s nothing to make it much different from Leo’s 23 other netcasts.

Personally, I think the original TWIT participants owe a debt to Leo and should make time to do the show. Only that would restore it to its former greatness.

  53. pailhead Says:

Leo, don’t shut down the TWiT show, that show is what got me into the netcast thing, and I have a ton of shows I listen to now, including all of your netcasts. I love listening to TWiT and I eagerly await the netcasts every week. If you have to make them just every other week, if that can help John and Patrick show get the energy to be on the show.

Man please keep the show going Leo!

  54. TWiT is part of the podcast infrastructure. Leo, take a break but don’t kill TWiT. It’s what you’re known for in the podcasting community.

What will 100,000+ listeners do for their tech-geek-gossip fix each week if you knock it on the head? Cranky Geeks? I don’t think so…

Get some new names – that’ll help as I am sure that there are ‘000s of people out there who would trade their Mom’s for the chance to be on TWiT – me included!

    Don’t be a TWIT – keep TWiT…

  55. xb Says:

If you can’t get John, Patrick, and Kevin to co host with you, then get:

    SEBASTIAN RUPLEY,
    ROBERT HERON, and
    ALEX ALBRECHT!

That will bring TWiT back on top in no time!

  56. tony Says:

The end of twit is fine by me. Some of the amazine mindless crap they came out with was more that I could put up with.

  57. MOJOJOJO Says:

I think TWIT should have open auditions based on some kinda criteria, and over the next few months, try a different set of hosts or something, idoonno. Ill be donating though, that I do know. :)

  58. Luis Says:

Leo, please reconsider. If John or Patrick cannot make it to the show have them as special guest once a month (if they cannot show up once a month, then they better not be there!).

I am sure the technology world has enough knowledgeable people that can keep this show interesting.

If it wasn’t for TWiT I would have never started downloading DLTV or stop by John’s blog once in a while.

  59. Matthew Falk Says:

Please don’t leave. The network without the flagship is such a lesser experiance. Its like forx without family guy what do you have? Bill o’rielly! BLECH!

    -wolf

  60. John Says:

    OMG – you whiny baby.

Yes, I agree with most of everyone here. I don’t want TWiT to end. It’s my favorite pod(net)cast.

However to whine, complain and throw a tantrum worse that my 14 month old is just annoying. So you finally have a sponsor that wants to sponsor this show. Is any of the talent under contract? If not did you think about this once you agreed to take on the responsibility of having to deliver a show for a sponsor. We recently took on a sponsor for a podcast I produce, and I have no choice but to finish the weekly episode. If talent does not do there part, then I guess it would be me singing show tunes or doing my horrible John Madden impression for 20 minutes, but either way I feel I must get an episode out for the sponsor. Now would I make the sponsor pay for the advertisements in that episode, probably not. But I owe it to them to get their name out there every day, week, month – whatever. So keep crying, whining and stomping around (visions of Leo throwing himself on the floor like a two year old in Wal-Mart), and before long no one will care.

  61. Wsando Says:

Puhleez, if these people are too ful of themselves to give a good technical podcast to the people who have listened for years then let them go. Just don’t bother supporting their other projects that came about because the fan base of the podcast.

  62. 57hk Says:

You guys are morons. Fuck ‘podcasting’.

  63. Just an idea. please replace the men with the ladies. id luv to hear geek girls ramble about computer stuff. Besides, TWiT introduced me to inside the net. =)

  64. Herb Coleman Says:

I guess it’s all the pressure to not sell out to advertisers and the resistance to “netcast” that has taken it’s toll. Actually, I’ve always been amazed at the number of productions he was involved in. I keep thinking, “my gosh, when do you have time for family or food?”. When he started twit (from ROSS) he was still doing CFH in Canada and got it back on the air in the US for a while. He was doing the Security podcast and a radio show among other evndeavors. IMHO he and Kevin Rose are the hardest working men in techno-infotainment.

Maybe after being named Podcaster of the year there are no greater heights. Like Jerome Bettis, “the Bus” he’s going out a winner (afraid of ending up like Bret Farve). I hope he keeps doing the TWIT but if not I thank him for the years of technology info and laughs and wish him well.

  65. Mike17032 Says:

I am sure Leo loves hearing all this support, but he is not the one we need to convince. Leo clearly puts in a ton of time, and its not his dedication thats holding the show up.

Its John and Patrick (and also Kevin) who we need to convince to keep TWiT going. You cant blame them for not wanting to do something they surly almost get no money for, espically since they are so busy on other things. If they decide they dont have time anymore, then we shouldnt hold that against them.

Maybe change the day of the show, it doesnt need to be ready on monday. A weekly show can come out on any day of the week.

If they still cant do it, I say find people who can and keep the show going. John and Patrick are a key part of the show, but having a fluid cast that changes a bit every week is better than no show at all. I dont think we gain anything by changing the name to something else either, leave it as TWiT. And on the weeks that John or Patrick are around then have them, if they arnt use the more regular cast.

  66. Chris Says:

I have enjoyed every show. Please keep at it. Thanks Leo and friends

Get id of TWiT? Then what is the point of twit.tv….it all started with one. Get other people if pat and the rest are busy..People understand they have other jobs and mite not have time..but there are other techtv people you could get.

  69. Franko Says:

I say rename the show to TBIT (T-Bit – This BiWeekly in Tech).

I don’t want it to end, but maybe meeting every week takes too much time. How about going to every other week?

    Frank

  70. Matt Says:

Yes, listen…the other members of TWiT are good, they all have interesting input and valuable opinions and we all enjoy what they have to say, but none of them alone make-or-break the show. It’s really only Leo, the show’s nucleus, whose presence for the ‘netcast’ is mandatory. He provides the real tone and character of the show. The electrons are important, but in this case, interchangeable. Obviously we would want to avoid having to listen to marginal guests. No one wants “Steve” from “Steve’s Daily Blog-O-Rama” as a TWiT participant, but I’m sure Leo has a stable of interesting potential co-hosts to draw from, who would be willing to join in on a ‘_cast’ at short notice (I’m not trying to trivialize the work involved in putting together a show, but I have to believe that there are many qualified industry experts whom Leo has befriended over the years). I’m also convinced that the other TWiT members would agree that a ‘revolving-door’ approach to the team’s roster would not detract from the show’s quality, or alienate the listeners. It would free them up to participate when able, and join in like the rest of us as listeners when not. No ill will, no hard feelings, no bruised egos…right? Let’s just continue a good show with good tech conversation.

Please don’t kill off TWiT, there just really isn’t any reason too.

  71. M@ Says:

I don’t want to see TWiT go – but it’s not like we’re loosing Leo – he’s got a ton of other PodCasts.

I’d vote for changing the format – I think it’s a TWiT as long as Leo is running it. If the other TWiT’s don’t show up, so what. Change the panel, do whatever, just keep Leo reviewing tech news with some other techies and I’ll be happy.

    M@

  72. Goose Says:

I can’t believe what I am reading. This is the Godfather of podcasts.

Leo – TWiT can’t die. There is an inertia that is too powerful to stop. Take a break- that’s fine, but please please do not kill it.

It has helped me start my busines, it allows me to ‘live’ in SF and SV, it has introduced me to a world that I would never had the opportunity to see/hear/experience.

    Cheers,

    Never really interested me anyway.

  75. Antonio Says:

I’ve posted my support on the TWiT site and at Digg, but I’ll add another vote of support here for what it’s worth.

TWiT needs to fallback and regroup, but it should not end. Get the audience involved more in the shows. Get guests who respect the idea of TWiT. Do live shows at bars again, once a month. there are so many great ideas to help spark the show into heartbeat again.

Just one thing… don’t have the guests talk over each other that much. WIth that, on Skype, it makes understanding what everyone is saying almost impossible.

I love the show and can’t wait it hear it again. I’ll throw in another $50 just to keep the show going. Just don’t give it to an ungreatful or no-show guest; they don’t deserve it.

    Antonio

  76. leon Says:

This is pretty crap news, TWiT is the best podcast out there if you ask me. None has the excellent mix of news/comment/humour and industry understanding as TWiT does. It must be saved!

  77. Yvo van Doorn Says:

Let me put it this way. If Patrick stops showing up on TWiT, I’ll stop watching his show.

It seems like the original group is all off doing their own (multiple) podcasts now. Patrick is doing DL TV, and “What’s New Now”, Cranky Geeks. Dvork has his show. Kevin Rose has Digg. Roger Chang … What’s New Now. Not to mention the ton of shows Leo is running.

They are all spread too thin. When Twit started it was the only podcast they were doing.

  86. jorge.vargas Says:

why not just post comments to his blog entry?

  87. jake Says:

    kill off twit.

  89. [...] Hey guys, if you haven’t heard yet, Leo is having hesitations about TWiT, arguably the most influential and listened-to podcast in podcasting’s short history. Here’s a way to change his mind…it’s going to take a lot of effort from ALL of us!read more | digg story Filed under: Gadgets by — TechManager @ 16:46 [...]

    Don’t go.

  91. Jason Harper Says:

I am willing to bet ever since the “dell” and “mastercard” adverts started, the money that they were (now) getting paid wasn’t what they expected (meaning , not enough for what they were doing) and decided to find other things to do.

  92. Matt Says:

There is no need for Patrick, he was always a good co host but on DL TV his “im so cool” act just makes him sound sleepy and a bit boring. Ive always liked Dvorak but Cranky Geeks is boring and I only listen to it on a Friday if none of Leo’s Podcast are available. I think we have heard some good guests in the last year, I always think Will is very enthusiastic and researches the stories, Leo is always ready to discuss everything and I think there is a lot of new talent out there. Dump Patrick and Dvorak as regulars, they are good but Im sure there is better.

  93. Jorge Perez Says:

Why dont we all email Patrick and John. Maybe it will change their minds. Also, why dont you associate with Kevin “bigger pockets” Rose, maybe join ventures with him and use his capital to pay your ingrate twitians.

    Patrick: dl.tv@ziffdavis.com
    John: crankygeeks@ziffdavis.com

Maybe in John begins to get SPAM from us he will reconsider.

  94. mike Says:

    TWiT ≠ John and Patrick

    TWiT = Leo

  95. JZ Says:

Leo please…. don’t stop making twit. I’ve learned so much from you and all the other twits, please Leo..

  96. lerch Says:

I hope Leo keeps it going. I actually like the revolving cast and further, it’s “This Week In Tech,” not “This Week In Tech With A Specific Non-Changing List Of Guests.” If I want moment to moment news, there’s a variety of websites including Digg. If I want Daily podcast news, I love Buzz Out Loud on CNet. I like This Week In Tech because it’s a longer form where they can get a little deeper. And the “they” can be a variety of people. I love that Leo is the anchor but I think it would be quite enjoyable with any group of four folks from the TWIT network, plus the occasional non-TWIT like Molly Wood and such. I love the show, I love the whole network, and have no problem with Twit skipping a couple of episodes.

  97. Drew Olanoff Says:

I have been there, all podcasters have. It’s tough to keep a show going, but its all about the viewers/listeners.

If we don’t have a show one week, I will bust my rump to get SOMETHING up there to not leave people hanging.

  98. Anonymous Says:

This is tragic. I have been a geek since I was a kid editing the config.sys file in DOS 6.0 to make Wolenstein and Doom run better on a 486DX. Fast forward 18 years or so. Listening to TWiT every week inspired me to quit my dead end retail job to find a career in technology. Since then, I made the transition into an Internet Marketing firm and haven’t looked back. I truly enjoy my new job and am eternally gratefull to TWiT/Digg for reigniting my passion for the Internet. THANKS YOU TWITS!! Do it for the kids/adults in need of a little inspiration!

  99. David Says:

    Say it isn’t so!

  100. Streyeder Says:

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KEEP TWIT AROUND!

  101. ziggy Says:

I never post to these but I do want to say thank you to Leo & all of the TWITs.

This has obviously been in the works for some time now. For Leo to go public means that all the private discussions with his old ZDTV friends have failed to bring back the enthusiasm they once had for each other and what they were doing together. That is Ok. Things change.

I have enjoyed most of the content that this very talented group has produced over the years and I do not want to see it end, but this is about doing what is right for Leo. This endeavor has been more akin to a charity drive for old TechTV fans that has slowly weaned us off of our nightly tech fix.

It is a shame and a fact that the talent that Leo brought into ZDTV is outgrowing his influence and want a chance to cash in. I hope loyalty still means something to everyone in TWIT and that something positive can come from this. I doubt it.

The almighty dollar has won out. Pat & Robert pretend to be Leo & Pat of old, while Kevin & Alex chase the tech juveniles. I long the TechTV days, but life will go on with or without. They (TWITs) are all competitors now rather than partners.

    We will miss you Leo.

    Ziggy

    Leo,
Please don’t allow TWIT to die, even if you have to back it down from This Week to TheseLastFew Weeks in Tech. You yourself seem to be a gating participant and as nice as that is even President Bartlett wasn’t in every episode of West Wing. Try delegating the host position occasionaly, as much as we would miss you it will make the show more dynamic. I am sure you can come up with a creative solution for TWIT requiring so much of your time. You’re targeting your audience with a freaking lazer beam, keep it up. please.

  106. goldcoaster Says:

twit is leo plus guests – he doesn’t need Patricks poor attempts at being entertaining nor does he need John.

Leo, just do twit with a random selection of guests – Paul from SuperWin site is good choice sometimes.

  108. rasterbator Says:

The problem is that Leo is so busy with all of his other podcasts that TWiT may get left out in the cold.

Which is fine by me because Leo’s latest netcast debacle and the fact that he sleeps with a DeLL in his bed, are grinding on my last nerve.

I will loose all faith in podcasting in general if this happens… Leo, give me your address, and I’ll send you yesterday’s newspaper so you can smack the cast into shape! pff they’re a bunch of chumps if they think twit isn’t worth it.

  112. I don’t know why Leo doesn’t call me. Hell, I’d be more than happy to talk to him for an hour or so every week.

What are those other guys thinking?

  113. To Leo:

I listen to TWiT on a regular basis and really enjoy the show. As a podcaster myself, I understand the constant and persistent burdens that are placed, especially when there is / are co-hosts. Until recently I was co-host from show 1 of the Global Geek Podcast, before that I had my own show that ran for 20 or so episodes. It should be noted that the Global Geek Podcast is still running with a new co-host and is as good as it ever was. I enjoyed podcasting, but it is a large commitment every week or whatever frequency you choose to produce a show. TWiT always interests me with the members and usually holds my attention with the subject matter as I am quite the techy.

Although I understand that you are feeling down with TWiT (Leo) I do believe that your show has more potential and staying power than most of the other podcasts put together. You do not only have an enormous audience, but you have some of the best in our field talking in a relatively un-moderated setting.

As tech podcasters, wer’re never short of anything to talk about, so I don’t think you have a problem there. If you are worried about commitment of your team, maybe you should “re-cast” your team, as long as you are on the show, I don’t see why you can’t have different experts every week. A change of format can be a good thing, such as implementing that change of having different people every week.

    To the Readers here:

I can say with a certainty, being in this “podcasting business” now for just about a year and playing a few different positions that if Leo wants to shut down TWiT he is going to do it with or without support from his listeners. Podcasting like any other media is not only controlled by the ratings, but also how the producers feel about producing the show.

Show your support to keep TWiT on the internet radio waves, I certainly love everything Leo is doing with this network and have no desire to see TWiT go down the toilet, but if it does, you know Leo is going to come up with something else, equally, if not more awesome than his current venture.

*** Twit Family Fued Update ****

Just to ease the tension that we all have of possibly losing one of our favorite programs. I have gathered a few of the post that John C. Dvorak has replied to me on from his site in the blogs. This should provide some insight as to what could be really going on. So I think it’s safe for us to sit back in our seats and trust that TWIT is just going through some rough moments just as any other family/business would.

“I’m not too busy to do Twit. Generally if I’m in I say so in advance and when I don’t confirm and he really needs me he calls. I didn’t confirm, he never called. Things should have been fine.

What was stated by Leo anyway?

AND YES, Taylor is right. This isn’t the place for this.”

“Cripes..when did this become the Twit bitch line? Talk to Leo. He’s the one who unilaterally pulled the plug. He almost did it once before. I have nothing to do with this decision. As far as I can tell he likes his other 20 shows better. He has not consulted me personally on this.

Also: I predict twit will be back after a relaxing cruise. He needs a vacation. Let him take one.”
